HK Summer Jazz Festival at CITY HALL with SOLER

We were the only ensemble invited to the HK Summer Jazz Festival 2014 that was given the special honor of an entire night’s program all to ourselves. Given the freedom to program anything we wanted, we invited rock-star celebrity twins, “SOLER”, of Macau, to be our special guests. We featured them in cinematic music, such as Cinema Paradiso by Ennio Morricone, as well as some beautiful ballads in Italian and Spanish, including “Cucurrucucu”. Meanwhile, Jennifer brought the house down with our cover renditions of “Skyfall” and “He Lives In You” as well as many of our originals. This was one of our favorites performances to date! Thanks again to all who came to support us — the feedback was overwhelming!

Beating Heart: Show Previews New Music Video!

On August 30th, 2013, we performed our show, “Premieres”, at Beating Heart Studios in Sai Ying Pun. Aside from premiering several new original songs, we also unveiled our new title-track music video, “Calm Your Storm” produced and directed by Canadian Terri Oliver, with Nicholas Sallnow-Smith serving as Executive Producer. It was, in fact, a sneak-peak preview as we still made numerous fine-tuning edits over the following months. In addition to some crowd favorites, we also brought Sybil Thomas & Ginger Kwan back to sing some Amy Winehouse covers.

UPDATE: Our title-track music video, “Calm Your Storm”, was launched online in January 2014.

Man oh man oh man … this show was a blast! We enjoyed performing for a standing-room only crowd at HK’s largest restaurant-performance space, Grappa’s Cellar, on March 21st, 2013. Special guest, jazz diva Ginger Kwan, brought the house down with Tina Turner cover, “Goldeneye,” not to mention “Nobody Does it Better”, and Jennifer dropped many jaws with “Goldfinger”, “Diamonds Are Forever”, and “Skyfall”, to name but a few. We’re really looking forward to returning!

CLOCKENFLAP – HK’s Biggest Music Festival!

On December 1st, 2012 we performed at HK’s biggest, baddest music festival, Clockenflap! Just as we feared, it started to rain 5 minutes before we were to take the stage, but just as quickly, stopped about midway through our first tune. Even with an occasional slight drizzle, we were surprised by just how many people flocked over to come hear us play. Better than we had hoped for even if the weather had been perfect! So thank you for braving the elements to hear our show — and thank YOU, Clockenflap, for this very special invitation!

Thank you everyone who came to our shows at the new Cabaret Theater of the Fringe Club on October 22nd! It was a stellar, magical night, and we tried our best to fit everyone in. Apologies to those who had to sit on the floor or improvise a creative spot to stand on, but above all, apologies to those who just couldn’t make it inside. It seems that it is already time for SF to upgrade to larger venues! Thank you thank you thank you!

Charity Benefit Appearance: Fundraiser for Kenzo

Shaolin Fez, with special guest Sybil Thomas, performed at HKU on October 24th, 2012, as part of a fundraiser for a very special boy in need of a lung transplant after having had overcome leukemia. It was a touching evening with performances from several different groups and a silent auction of many items. Many of Kenzo’s classmates even sold tasty goodies to help as well. The evening was a huge success, even surpassing the goal. Now we wait with bated breath for Kenzo’s operation!

UPDATE: After 1 year of preparations, Kenzo received a portion of his father’s lung late in 2013 in an unprecedented surgery in Japan that involved over 20 doctors. In mid-2014 his family made another trip there for a check-up and the prognosis is fantastic – Kenzo is expected to recommence a fairly normal childhood with one operating lung that has grown to full size. People close to the family have said this never would have happened without the fundraiser. So thank you to the organizers, participants, and donors!
